Briny aromas of sea-air, sand and seaweed, then sweet salty smoky warmth and a pungent spicy finish

Meaning ‘shoreline’ in Gaelic, Cladach is the first-ever master blend of whiskies from six fine coastal single malt distilleries: Caol Ila, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Oban, Inchgower and Talisker. It is a complex, satisfying and very affirming whisky that captures the varied character of coastal malts perfectly.

The East Coast is represented by the unpeated, creamy Clynelish alongside the salty ‘Manzanilla of Speyside’ Inchgower. The West Coast brings the fruit and spice of Oban, the mighty intensity and peat of Lagavulin combined with the smoky complexity of Caol Ila and the sweet maritime thunder of Talisker. As well as being quite delicious, what’s fascinating is the skill shown by the master blenders who brought such strong characters together; the elements are all there if you look for them…whilst the whole is completely coherent.

The nose displays maritime aromas of salt and warm sand, seaweed and resin but also something vinous – floral and cereal notes combine with a touch of smoke and honey. On the palate this is rich and absorbing, instantly pleasing and moreish with a smoky warmth, grainy caramel notes, sea shells and salty, rocky flavours that lead to finishing notes of orange skin, vanilla and spicy smoky cereal. This compelling dram offers a unique journey through some of Scotland’s finest coastal distilleries.

So if you’re preparing for a night of piping, haggis and verse, don’t forget to order in a bottle of something special with which to toast the lassies and the laddies, in true Robert Burns style.
