“It is with a heavy heart that Hemming Group Ltd is postponing London Wine Fair 2020.  It remains inconclusive as to when, or for how long the Government might place restrictions on mass gatherings in the UK.  Nonetheless, the London Wine Fair team has taken the difficult decision to postpone this much-loved event.

We are keenly aware that the developing COVID-19 pandemic is putting immense pressure on not only the events industry but the drinks industry and the hospitality industry. We value our position at the heart of both and will always make decisions with them in front of the mind.

Experience dictates that the bulk of organizing for exhibitors and sponsors happens between now and the event.  Our objective in taking this decision with two month’s lead-time is to minimize unnecessary expenditure and stress caused by uncertainty.

The safety of our exhibitors, visitors, sponsors, suppliers and in-house team, of course, takes over-riding precedence in the bigger picture.

We plan to release more information about the next steps for the London Wine Fair as soon as possible. Given the exceptional circumstances and an elevated number of stakeholders to consider, we would ask for your patience in the interim period.”

We recognise the increased uncertainty that coronavirus (COVID-19) may be causing. This situation will remain under review and we will continue to provide regular updates.

As you will be aware, the UK risk level for coronavirus has been increased from low to moderate. However, the risk to individuals has not changed and remains low. At this point in time London Wine Fair 2020 will be going ahead as planned.

The safety of visitors and exhibitors is forefront of everything we do. We are working closely with the venue, Olympia, and we will continue to follow advice from the Government, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England.

About Coronavirus

A coronavirus is a type of virus and typical symptoms include fever and a cough that may progress to severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

Advice for UK residents and visitors:

  • The advice for UK residents who think they may be affected is to take common-sense steps to avoid close contact with other people, including not going to work, school or public areas and not using public transport. Please contact NHS 111, and do not attend a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. International visitors can also contact NHS 111 or 999.
  • NHS 111 is a 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week telephone advice service for members of the public to phone if they have an urgent medical concern; 999 is the contact number for emergency services (Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Police), for urgent assistance.
  • Please be aware that calls to 111 from an overseas-registered mobile phone, within the UK, may not work and may not be free. For anyone unable to call 111, the alternative number is 0300 020 0155.
  • If you are due to attend London Wine Fair 2020 and think you may be affected, please stay indoors, either at home or within your hotel room, avoiding contact with other people and please contact NHS 111 or 999.
  • If someone begins to feel unwell whilst attending an event at London Wine Fair 2020, they should speak to a member of staff or the onsite medical team immediately
  • All Olympia London employees and service partners have been provided with health information, as per WHO, the NHS and the Government’s guidelines
  • There will be extra hand sanitisers available on site, plus we will have a small stock of masks and individual sanitizers that we will make available as required – although we recommend you bring your own if required.

Current government advice on international travel:

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people immediately if you’ve travelled to the UK from:

  • Hubei province in China in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms
  • Iran, lockdown areas in northern Italy or special care zones in South Korea since 19 February, even if you do not have symptoms
  • Other parts of mainland China or South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan or Thailand in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)
  • Other parts of northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Vietnam since 19 February and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild).

This is a developing situation and we would encourage you to refer to the latest information and advice on this matter from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England which can be found here.
