LA GRANDE ANNÉE 2008
For Champagne Bollinger the 2008 harvest resulted in a wine of infinite depth. The remarkable maturity of the grapes combined with exceptional acidity resulted in the creation of a cuvée that exalts the House’s style: La Grande Année 2008.
2008, DEPTH & REFINEMENT
Predominantly from the great vintages of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, the Pinots Noirs and Chardonnays complement each other to offer a blend with a rare balance, one that perfectly combines the concentration and freshness of this vintage.
It has taken more than ten years to reveal the full quality of the vintage and perfect the unique expression of La Grande Année 2008 in an intense, complex, and harmonious wine.
The intensity, a sign of the great aromatic richness of this wine, is expressed and lingers through the aromas of citrus and soft fruits, berries and spices, oral and mineral notes…
Its long finish, structure, and density are hallmarks of the great Pinots Noirs of Aÿ and Verzenay, the true backbone of the wine.
Reflections of the unique characteristics of 2008, its complexity, and its extremely fresh texture bestow a remarkable depth and vitality on this wine. Its chalky, precise nish prolongs the tasting experience for several minutes.
From one of the most anticipated vintages since the start of the 21st century, aged for more than 9 years on its lees, La Grande Année 2008 has great aging potential.
La Grande Année embodies the artisanal expertise that Bollinger has always upheld, which continues to be put to use in its production:
• Vini cation takes place exclusively in small old oak barrels (20 years old on average), maintained in Bollinger’s
cooperage, of which there are almost 3,500.
• Riddling and disgorging are performed entirely by hand and take place after aging on the lees in bottles with natural corks.
Producing every bottle of La Grande Année requires patience and precision, and is only possible thanks to the work of the men and women of Bollinger,
whose artisanal methods have been passed down from generation to generation.
Gilles Descôtes, Cellar Master
La Grande Année 2008 is Bollinger’s first prestige cuvée to have been aged in the 1846 Bollinger bottle with its unique and identifying shape. This bottle has been completely redesigned, inspired by a 19th-century bottle with beneficial properties for the quality of the wine. A new wooden box, reflecting traditional craftsmanship and winemaking in barrels, now encases this precious bottle.
Thanks to its incomparable depth and creamy texture, La Grande Année is truly great gastronomic champagne.
Its rich texture, creamy effervescence, and delicate bitterness make it the ideal partner for re ned dishes and ne products. Its complex, multifaceted aromatic pro le (fruity, spicy, oral) showcases a very wide variety of foods, gastronomic influences, and origins. On the palate, its length and saline finish make La Grande Année a reference, sought after by enthusiasts around the world.
