La Biennale di Venezia

La Biennale di Venezia sets new dates for the Theatre and Dance Festivals, confirms the dates of the Music Festival and announces 15 Collateral Events for the Biennale Architettura 2020

More specifically, the 48th International Theatre Festival directed by Antonio Latella will take place from September 14th to 24th, instead of June 29th to July 13th as previously announced. The 14th International Festival of Contemporary Dance directed by Marie Chouinard will take place from October 13th to 25th, instead of June 5th to 14th. The original dates are confirmed for the 64th International Festival of Contemporary Music directed by Ivan Fedele, which will take place from September 25th to October 4th.
The new dates for the Theatre and Dance Festivals were set as a consequence of the current health emergency, which makes it impossible to proceed in coming weeks with the schedule of rehearsals and the staging of the performances.

The new schedule of events of La Biennale di Venezia 2020, chaired by Roberto Cicutto, is therefore the following:

· From August 29th to November 29th, the 17th International Architecture Exhibition directed by Hashim Sarkis

· From September 2nd to 12th, the 77th Venice International Film Festival directed by Alberto Barbera

· From September 14th to 24th, the 48th International Theatre Festival directed by Antonio Latella

· From September 25th to October 4th, the 64th International Festival of Contemporary Music directed by Ivan Fedele

· From October 13th to 25th, the 14th International Festival of Contemporary Dance directed by Marie Chouinard.

Biennale College activities are planned in all these sectors, but with a novelty aimed at young graduates who want to try their hand at the art of “writing”. The program will provide for each of

the sectors, and for a given number of admitted, a research and writing work path assisted by a tutor, under the supervision of the artistic directors who will give the “theme” of the research. The work of the aspiring “young scholars in residence” will involve both participations in the Festival and research in the Historical Archive of La Biennale di Venezia.

COLLATERAL EVENTS OF THE BIENNALE ARCHITETTURA

There will be 15 Collateral Events at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, titled How will we live together? and curated by Hashim Sarkis, which will be open to the public from August 29th to November 29th 2020 in the venues of the Giardini and the Arsenale (pre-opening on August 27th and 28th).
The 15 Collateral Events approved by the Curator – there were 13 at the Biennale Architettura 2018 – have been promoted by non-profit national and international bodies and institutions. Organized in various venues across the city, they present a wide range of projects and participations that enrich the pluralism of voices that distinguishes the Exhibition in Venice.

The 77th Venice International Film Festival, organised by the La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, will take place at Venice Lido from 2 – 12 September 2020.
• FILM SUBMISSIONS: the selection of films is open. In order to be eligible for the official selection, the films presenters must fill out the pre-selection entry form on www.labiennale.org no later than 12 June 2020 (deadline for early bird submissions: 31 May).

VENICE GAP-FINANCING MARKET

The Venice Gap-Financing Market (4-6 September 2020) is a platform for selected projects that aims to support European and international producers to secure complete financing for their projects (Fiction Films, Documentaries and VR Immersive Story Projects) through meetings with potential and pertinent international professionals, such as producers, sales agents, distributors, financiers, broadcasters and funds.
The call is open for the categories Fiction and Documentary Feature Films (up to 27/33 projects will be selected) and VR Immersive Story Projects (up to 10/12 VR projects will be selected).
Projects may be submitted until 15 May 2020.
