Top Weinviertel estate celebrates its anniversary

Vienna, 25 June 2019

Ten years ago in Poysdorf, the winegrower couple Marion & Manfred Ebner- Ebenauer– today an international success story – released their first wine to the market. The ensuing solid decade of vinous excellence provided the best possible reason to hold a huge celebration for their friends, stars of the culinary world, & others who had accompanied them along the way.

Flaschen-Line-up

It all began in the year 2007. Marion Ebner & Manfred Ebenauergot married and took over his parents’ wine estate. Ebner-Ebenauer was born, and the Weinviertelbecame all the richer for their efforts: a wine producer of the highest quality, soon to achieve international success & recognition. Recently the winegrower couple invited some 200 guests to their estate in Poysdorf,to celebrate the successful past, their new construction and the opening of their ‘Salon’for hosting sophisticated culinary encounters.

Among those giving presentations were the cabaret artist Florian Scheuba, winegrower/mentor Fritz Wieningerand Master of Wine Anne Krebiehl, while other attendees included worldwide partners & supporters in the trade & press.

Culinary highlights were provided by Lukas Mraz, Christian Petz, Sebastian Slavicek from Goldfischand Harald Pollak from Pollak’s Wirtshaus Retzbacherhof.

Sommeliers Willi Schlöglfrom Freundschaft in Berlinand Simon Schubert from aendin Vienna led partygoers through a comprehensive tasting of the Ebner-Ebenauer single-vineyard winesgoing back to the very beginning.

One of the evening’s highlights was a ‘sparkling surprise’, when hostess Marion disgorged fifty bottles of Blanc de Blancs Zero Dosage 2008 in front of her guests– the E-E’s had kept a hundred bottles of this hitherto highest-ranked Austrian Sekt resting on the lees for special occasions!

‘It was clear from the very beginning that Marion would eventually make her own wine. Even as a sixteen-year-old she had that certain gleam in her eyes. And then when she teamed up with Manfred, well, success was easy to predict. I am truly proud of my former apprentice’, said Viennese winegrowerFritz Wieninger during his laudatory speech.

London-based journalist Anne Krebiehl MW piled on the praise:

‘There are few wine producers who enjoy international success as quickly as Manfred & Marion have done. Their wines and Sekts all showed marvellous quality, right from the start – the estate is a fabulous ambassador for Austria’!

In two sentences:

Marion & Manfred Ebner-Ebenauer have been cultivating an estate that’s grown to sixteen hectares of vineyards since 2007, in 2016 converted to organic viticulture. The winegrower couple share the work in the vineyard and cellar, characterising the vineyards of 30– 70 year-old grapevines and the 400-year-old wine cellar as the estate’s greatest treasures.

Exclusive hand-harvesting was a matter of course right from the beginning, while only grapes from their own vineyards are vinified for their single-vineyard wines. The most important and most expressive vineyards are Hermanschachern, Bürsting & Sauberg.

Support for the Ebner-Ebenauers’ festivities was also provided by Figlmüller, Pöhl am Naschmarkt, Fleischerei Hofmann (butcher), Neufeldner Biobrauerei (beer), Transgourmet, Ulrich Etiketten (printing) and Zalto Glassware.
