CELEBRATING CHIANTI REGION

In 2016 Chianti Classico celebrates 300 years of history. Indeed, back on 24th September 1716 for the first time in history, Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici decided to issue a notice to define the boundaries of some areas particularly well-suited for the production of fine quality wines.

The notice was entitled: “On the Declaration of the boundaries of the four regions Chianti, Pomino, Carmignano and Vald’Arno di Sopra”, and the largest area was that between the cities of Florence and Siena, in which Chianti wine was created and which corresponds to today’s Chianti Classico vineyards. The area had already met with success in those days, which had given the far-sighted Grand Duke the idea of protecting and monitoring it.

Considering that today’s notion of “classification” only dates back to the 20th century, imagining that someone already thought of formalizing the success of this special blend of man, nature, product, and land back in 1716 is most impressive. There are no other areas that can boast a similar history! Chianti Classico will take part in the 2016 edition of Vinexpo Hong Kong.
